DIY Sealers/Protectants

Moisture is your number one worst enemy, when it can dry on any surface it will do damage. All areas that can achieve a 1/4″ slope per foot minimum needs and requires this for certain, hardscapes, flat roof’s, even the top of any larger handrails or block walls must be able to push water off for normal drying and minimal damage.
Patios slabs and flatwork need DIY sealer protection with it having year round exposure to the elements. Blacktop asphalt, limestone and any artificial hardscapes can use a sealer, to save money in repair work.

Keeping in mind areas such as Costa Rica, South America for instance will be a much harsher environment than elsewhere. But even weekly watering has ill effects on surfaces that cannot drain in a timely fashion. When moisture is allowed to evaporate on any surface period, this does cause premature breakdown of materials that have not been sealed, dry rot on wood is a billion dollar rehab business. DIY sealers and protectants are paramount in preserving and allowing a life span that can triple the norm.
