DIY PLUMBING TOOLS: The basics start at the pipe wrench, small, medium and large with an adjustable jaw. A couple of channel locks, small and large. Butane torch with a roll of solder and some flux for priming. A Copper tubing Cutter and a standard set of adjustable wrenches and screwdriver sets, both phillips and flat head. This will get most the average projects done at home. But add in a sawzall, basin wrench and a set of cowbells and your running things. New technology has us storing the copper tools more and more, with PEX tubing taking place no more sweating pipe fittings. With mechanical fittings like the Sharkbite, plumbing up or repairing a kitchen sink has become more simplified to point where a pair of cutters and a tape measure will get almost any DIY plumbing done. ![]() DIY PLUMBING FIXTURES: Bathtub’s whether they are classic claw free standing foot or your standard 3 wall mount bathtub, porcelain or fiberglass, all are under the umbrella of plumbing fixtures. A Single handle shower mixing valve verses the 3 way with a bathtub fill diverter is another option for fixture choices. Fiberglass Shower pans as well as the glass door enclosures units, and with the Sink faucets or kitchen faucets typically are the same concept with the kitchen sink faucet having a pullout function for mobile rinsing purposes. Any one of the many sinks at home Laundry, Kitchen or Bath all will be found here. Toilets and also the toilet seats even under here too, your standard yard hose bib is considered another type of plumbing fixture as well. DIY ANGLE STOPS: Copper tubing 1/2″ angle stops are most commonly used throughout the industries, since copper pipes have been implemented, in which a compression type of angle stop is the application here. But not all homes have copper pipes today, if you have had a repipe performed on your home most likely its copper or PEX. The homes still consisting of galvanized pipe require another type of angle stop valve, likely a 1/2″ pipe thread style that essentially just threads on using some teflon plumbers tape. DIY PLUMBING DRAINS: Most of the drainage components in DIY plumbing are plastic and go together like lego’s, today’s ABS plastic drainage parts under the sinks, such as traps and their components are threaded for easy assembly and cleaning. The glued parts are available also but not practical. Sold typically in 10′ lengths the plastic tubing and easily cut with a hacksaw, waste and vent lines are then glued together on site and tested before enclosing into walls, ceilings or foundations. White vinegar works awesome on most of the metals, where hard water residue or calcification occurs just allow ample soaking time and you will see the results, mixing the metals cause a nasty effect called [electrolysis], as many metals are not compatible IE brass/copper/stainless are , versus brass/copper/stainless and galvanize or iron pipes are not, most of the chrome pieces are covered brass so do your homework.We hope to be able to diy guide you in all your plumbing ventures. |
