DIY Electrical Service PanelsMany of the older homes built in the 1960’s and before came standard with a 60 amp meter panel in which were suffice in those days. But with technology advancing in today’s world we’ve come to be under powered to say the least. So often times a simple room addition requires a DIY panel upgrade. Many times this will entail a swap of meter capacity in the exact same location with a one day turn around by most professionals. Perhaps the DIY room addition justifies the new panel location becoming more effective or less accessible for the meter maid in which the old box or panel becomes a junction box for the new meter. Lots of variables to consider but your local building department will address all the details for you.
